Open the one direction taking work

Naming consultation that tells you, in writing, whether your name survives a phone call.

You have a short or invented name and you are about to pay for a logo and a domain. Before you do, Xavriqon's naming consultation in Austin gives you a written assessment: how the name is spelled by someone hearing it, how strangers say it, what it collides with, and what the domain situation really is. One call, then one document, with the fee quoted in writing before any work starts.

What an invented brand name assessment covers

Four tests, each with a written finding. A name either passes, passes with a cost you should know about, or fails, and the document says which.

Test 01

Spelling over the phone

We say the name to people who have never seen it and record what they type. If most of them do not land on your spelling, you will spend years repeating it letter by letter. We report the variants they produced, because those are the domains you will want to hold too.

Test 02

Pronunciation from print

The reverse. People read it cold and say it aloud. Ambiguous stress, a silent letter, a c that could be hard or soft: each gets noted with how often it tripped a reader. A name that reads two ways splits word of mouth in half.

Test 03

Collision risk

Search results, app stores, social handles and existing companies in your field. We list what already answers to the name or something one letter away. Where a collision looks like a trademark matter, we write the question down for your attorney instead of guessing at the answer.

Test 04

The domain picture

Which extensions are free, and for the ones that are registered, how each is used and whether it sits behind a for-sale page. This is how to choose a short brandable domain name with your eyes open: knowing what the .com costs in practice before you print it on anything.

The process, in order

From your first letter to the written assessment

  1. You write

Use the contact form with the kind set to naming. Put the candidate name in the name field exactly as you would spell it, plus one paragraph on what it is for. A reply comes within three business days as a working rule.

  2. One call

Phone, or in person at Oak Lane if you are in Austin. We ask who has to say the name out loud most often, where it will be printed first, and what you have already registered. About forty minutes. No charge for it.

  3. Scope and fee, in writing

An email with what the assessment will cover, how many candidate names, the delivery date and the fee in USD. Nothing is owed until you reply to accept it. If you do not reply, nothing happens.

  4. The tests run

Phone spelling, cold reading, collision searches and the domain survey. Findings go into a working file as they come in, so the final document shows its sources rather than conclusions alone.

  5. The document arrives

A written assessment per name: what passed, what passed at a cost, what failed and why. A separate page lists trademark questions for your attorney. You keep it. We do not publish client names or their candidates.

What it costs

No price on the site, and here is what the quote depends on

We do not publish a fee because two assessments rarely cost the same. A single invented name with all extensions free is a short job. Five candidates, one of them sitting with an investor who has three lookalikes parked, is a long one. The written quote you get after the call names the figure in USD and the delivery date together.

The quote is an offer for that scope only. It is not binding on either side until you accept it in writing, and it does not change after you accept unless you add names.

Why this office

We ran every one of these tests on our own name first

xavriqon is seven letters, two vowels, no dictionary meaning. Before registering it we said it to strangers and wrote down how they spelled it. The q without a u cost a beat in every first conversation, and we kept it because it made the name return nothing but itself in search. That notebook method and that domain survey now go into client work. The about page has the longer account.

Who this is not for

Better to say it here than after a call. If one of these is your situation, there is someone better placed to help.

  1. 01 You want us to buy a domain for you

We do not broker. The assessment can tell you who holds the name and whether it looks for sale. A domain broker negotiates; we do not.

  2. 02 You need trademark clearance

That is an attorney's opinion. We write the questions down clearly so the attorney's hour costs less, and we stop there.

  3. 03 You need a name by Friday

The phone and reading tests need real people and real days. If your deadline is inside a week, do not wait on us. The fit checker will tell you if your date is before our reply target.

  4. 04 You want to buy xavriqon.com

It is not for sale. Offers get a one-line reply saying so.

Questions before writing

What people ask about the brand naming studio side of the office

Can you find me a name from scratch?

Not as a generating service. The assessment works on names you bring, up to a short list. If none survive, we say why, and that usually tells you what the next candidates need.

Will you buy the domain I want from its current holder?

No. We report who appears to hold it and how it is used. We do not contact registrants or negotiate on anyone's behalf.

Is the assessment a trademark clearance?

No. We are not attorneys. Where a name raises a trademark question, the assessment writes the question down and you take it to your own counsel.

Do you work only with Austin clients?

No. The office is in Austin and the call can be in person at Oak Lane, but the work is done in writing and can be done for anyone in the United States.
